Homemade Dry Shampoo

What is dry shampoo?

The basic idea of dry shampoo is an oil-absorbing substance that you will need to apply to the roots of your hair (scalp) or wherever your hair is greasy. There are great brands on the market, but unfortunately, in the past 18 months, several major consumer products companies, including Unilever, Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson, have announced at least 10 recalls of well-known aerosol brands. The reason: The products contained elevated amounts of benzene, a chemical known to cause cancer and compromise our immune system. YIKES!

Looking for a DIY dry shampoo without chemicals or cornstarch, Brown & Co Beauty gets it. There’s a chance cornstarch could make the hair or scalp feel dry or cause some kind of irritation. Cornstarch alone isn’t balanced with the kinds of preservatives, antimicrobial, and anti-fungal ingredients that products made for hair and scalp are formulated with.

For a cornstarch-free recipe, Brown feels baking soda is a good option. Browns' COMING SOON dry shampoo line formulations are simple recipes that absorb excess oil, while giving your roots some volume. Brown & Co Beauty developed this universal formula (great for all hair color) because it’s light, absorbs oil really well, and neutralizes odor. Simply sprinkle onto your roots, massage into hair, and blow dry for a minute or two if needed to blend.

Available in Fragrance Free, Bergamot Lime, Lemongrass and Lavender.
